The Gospel

In the beginning, there was God.

Before anything came into being, God existed, and He is the one who created the world.

He designed a perfectly beautiful world where humans  could walk with Him and never had to worry about anything. He loved them and provided for their every need, and they loved Him in return.

But, in His love for them, He gave them a choice.

A choice to obey Him or to rebel against Him. And they chose to rebel, when they were deceived by the enemy, Satan, who is the complete opposite of God. This rebellion is called sin, and ever since the first humans sinned, every single person has been born a sinner. Our natural desires are twisted and messed up, and that is what has led to this world being as broken as it is. An even bigger problem than the broken world we live in is the separation from God that occurs when we sin. Our sin totally separates us from the presence of God. As much as God still loves those who sin, because He is completely HOLY, sin cannot enter His presence.

In order for people to still be in right standing with God, they had to sacrifice spotless animals as payment for their sins. Although this system of sacrifice temporarily paid for their sins, it was imperfect and people continued to sin against Him. Ultimately, sin couldn't be removed by good deeds like sacrifice or going to the temple to worship.

But God...

God did not just sit back and let this separation stand between us and Him. He has been actively pursuing us ever since He asked the sinful man, Adam, in the Garden, "Where are you?" And about two thousand years ago, God did something that changed history forever.

He sent his own Son, Jesus Christ, down to earth, as the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Jesus was born to a virgin named Mary, and he was fully God and fully man. He was sinless and could perform miracles, like raising the dead, healing the sick, and freeing people from demons. Most importantly, he had the power to forgive us of our sin.

The Jews of the day accused Him of falsely claiming to be God, and they sentenced him to death by being crucified on a cross. Jesus humbly accepted this humiliating form of death, although he did not deserve it, so that he could be the ultimate payment for our sins. After he died, he rose from the dead three days later, defeating death and sin FOREVER.

He told his followers to make disciples all over the earth, and then He ascended into heaven where He is seated at the right hand of the Father. So, just like Jesus said, the message of His death and resurrection spread all over the world because it is the ultimate message of hope. Anyone who puts their faith in Him as their Lord and Savior is promised eternal life.

And here we are today in the in between, but there's more to the story that has yet to unfold.

Jesus also promised that He is coming back. He is going to create a new heaven and new earth, where sin and evil will be no more, and we will be in perfect relationship with God again.

This is the simple truth of the gospel. Ever since the beginning, God has been lovingly pursuing us, and He desires for us to pursue a relationship with Him. It's a simple pursuit. All we must do is trust Him as our Lord & Savior and surrender our lives to following Him.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.
